It Is Beyond Sad that this is the Best that Idaho Can Do

An Idaho man diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia has been sentenced to at least 40 years in prison for intentionally ramming two motorcycle troopers who were parked along the median of Interstate 84 last October.

Fourth District Judge Darla Williamson imposed a 60-year sentence on David Turnovec, 30, of Buhl, in an Ada County courtroom Thursday morning.  He will not be eligible for parole for 40 years.

Turnovec is a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic who was not taking his medication when he rammed his vehicle into the two officers.

"Turnovec's attorney said that this was a sad decision and wished there was a better facility for Turnovec to be treated."

It has come to this. Instead of placing Turnovec in a secure mental health facility where he can receive treatment, he will spend the next 40 years in prison. Idaho is truly morally bankrupt and sordid episodes like this are the proof.

P.S. I also hope that the two officers, who were innocent victims of Turnovec's psychotic rage, regain their full health.
