The above is an excerpt of the experiences of a visitor from Iceland to New York. The treatment of this individual is shocking yet not surprising. Many of the responses to this story expressed outrage and dismay at how far this country has fallen in terms of showing respect for human dignity and maintaining individual liberties. I am reminded of the frog in boiling water. Drop the frog into water already boiling, and the creature is reported to react. Gradually increase the temperature, and the frog will stay put until it dies. Are we the frog? Is it too late to jump out of the cauldron?
